I needed to write an article that grabbed people out of their scrolling slumber.
So I thought about what most people were writing:
Everyone says ‘You just gotta find TIME for writing…’
Yawn Central.
I FLIPPED that sucker with a flourish of the wrist.
Instead, I came up with: “You already HAVE time. You just don’t value writing enough to make it non-negotiable.”
The message was that if you don’t have time to write, it’s not a time issue. It’s a prioritisation issue.
If you aren’t writing, you just don’t care enough. (Sorry, Jenkins, it’s true.)
That post generated more replies, shares, and debates than anything I’d written in months.
But, why?
Because I used a cheeky little trick I call inversion.
It’s one of many writing flips we can use to spice up our words and increase engagement.
The inversion technique is the one I use in a large chunk of what I write.
It’s also one often employed in many viral posts and videos.
Here’s how it works:
