If your content feels lifeless, and you’re not motivated, try inviting your reader into your house

Some of my clients come to me and say, ‘Alex, I don’t know what else to write about.’

I tell them this:

‘Sounds like you’ve been hanging around on your front lawn too long.’

They look at me with a glazed look.

Most of us play it safe in our content by putting distance between ourselves and our reader.

We write curated lists and tell stories about people long since dead.

This can all be interesting, and much of this is necessary for your brand if you’re developing authority on a niche handful of topics, but you also want to bring in some intimacy.

We run a lawn sale but don’t let any guests into the house.

Inside your house is where you will find inspiration.

You likely have stacks of untapped ideas hidden in your house, but you’re too busy flogging lemonade from your driveway.

What do I mean by inviting people into your house?

This is when, instead of giving us another how-to on establishing a morning routine (which people can get through ChatGPT), you tell us a story about how you came to set up a routine for yourself.
