How to get out of a rut.
gurus get it wrong
It felt like I was slipping away.
I’d lost interest in my work. I was getting continually rejected.
I couldn’t find that spark.
I was spending half the day watching YouTube videos in my boxer shorts.
I needed a change.
Back then, I’d follow the advice of online gurus on how to get out of a rut. They said I should write down my goals and find my purpose in life.
But this didn’t work for me. I was in a rut because I didn’t know what to do in the first place.
Finally, with a sense of desperation, I asked:
What can I do to lift myself out of this funk?
I knew I liked to write, but it wasn’t always easy. So I decided then and there to write two hundred words every day, no matter what.
I wouldn’t focus on the views, likes or results.
I’d just have one commitment — to get words down every day.
After a week, I felt better.
After two weeks, my confidence returned, and I began to see myself not as a ‘stuck person’ but a ‘daily writer.’
I was a daily writer because the evidence was indisputable.
