Four things I did to grow over 100,000 followers on Twitter in 10 months
I’ve been tweeting since 2008 and ditched an account with 24,000 followers in late 2021.
It appeared my growth was being throttled there, and I wanted to start fresh.
So I started my current account: @AlexMathers84, in late 2021 and didn’t really do anything with it until mid-January, when I had a couple of hundred followers.
Since then — as of October 2022 — I’ve grown to over 100,000 followers. I’m continually amazed by what’s possible on this app.

Many factors contributed, but here are the key components that led to this growth:
Wrote things few were saying.
Having written online for over a decade, I didn’t always write things that resonated or were of particular interest to people.
Many things have fallen flat.
So I’ve developed a good sense of what I can write that works and what people connect with.
I’m guided by experience and driven by my answer to the question:
‘What are few people saying that I’m willing to say?’
