For the first few years of building an online business, I wrote to impress.
I shared lots of information, hacks and tips.
These were valuable to many, but I found it hard to bring in customers and make sales. Engagement sucked too.
When I started sharing more about who I was and what I stood for, things shifted.
People responded better.
If you want a loyal community around you, you need to give them something with which to resonate and connect.
People don’t resonate with solely information.
They resonate most with something human — something that creates emotion and relates to their lives.
In other words, they connect with the human element in your work.
Here’s how to bring more of this in:
- Reveal more about your quirky interests and obsessions.
- Tell us more about what makes you frustrated or angry or emotional.
- Bring in more specific details to add colour and realism to your descriptions of your life.
- Go out and live an interesting life and then come back and tell us about it.
